چکیده

Human platelets were tested for the presence of proteins immunologically cross-reactive with red cell spectrin and protein 4.1 . As assessed by indirect immunofluorescence microscopy. platelets were specifically reactive with affinity-purified rabbit antisera against red cell spectrin and protein 4.1 . The immunoreactive platelet constituents were further analyzed by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, followed by electrophoretic transfer to nitrocellulose paper and immunoperoxidase staining. We found that whole platelets. membranes. and cytoskeletal preparations isolated by Triton X-1 00 extraction contain small amounts of proteins reacting with anti-

Red cell membrane protein abnormalities as defined by sds-page among patients with anaemia in a west african region hospital practice

Background: Erythrocytes require an ability to deform and to withstand shear stress while negotiating the microcirculation. These properties are largely due to their excess surface area per volume and the characteristics of the membrane’s protein. Deficiencies of these proteins are associated with chronic haemolysis. Methods: This was a cross sectional  study aimed at determining the prevalenc...

RED CELLS Targeted deletion of -adducin results in absent - and -adducin, compensated hemolytic anemia, and lethal hydrocephalus in mice

In the red blood cell (RBC), adducin is present primarily as tetramers of and -subunits at spectrin-actin junctions, or junctional complexes. Mouse RBCs also contain small amounts of -adducin. Platelets contain and -adducin only. Adducin functions as a barbed-end actin capping protein to regulate actin filament length and recruits spectrin to the ends of actin filaments. To further define adduc...

Identification of a 220 kDa membrane-associated plant cell protein immunologically related to human ,&spectrin

Electrophoretic analysis of low ionic strength extracts of tomato plant leaves revealed the presence of two proteins of apparent molecular weights of 240 kDa and 220 kDa which co-migrated with purified human erythrocyte aand /I-spectrin subunits. Immunochemical analyses employing an affinity-purified polyclonal antibody to human erythrocyte /?-spectrin reacted specifically with the 220 kDa plan...

The 4.1-like proteins of the bovine lens: spectrin-binding proteins closely related in structure to red blood cell protein 4.1

The superficial cortical fiber cells of the bovine lens contain membrane-associated proteins of 150,000, 80,000, and 78,000 D that cross-react with antisera prepared against red blood cell (RBC) protein 4.1 (Aster, J. C., G. J. Brewer, S. M. Hanash, and H. Maisel, 1984, Biochem. J., 224:609-616). To further study their relationship to protein 4.1, these proteins were immunoprecipitated from det...
